Medical examination

ZUS will schedule a medical examination to confirm both types of incapacity. Bring all medical documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the allowance replace the social pension?
No. The supplementary allowance is paid alongside the social pension — they are two separate benefits. Together: PLN 1,978.49 (pension) + PLN 2,520 (allowance) = approx. PLN 4,498 gross per month.
When did the supplementary allowance come into force?
From 1 January 2025, under the Act of 15 May 2024 amending the Social Pension Act (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1615).
Is the allowance subject to indexation?
Yes. The PLN 2,520 amount is indexed annually from 1 March (art. 6a para. 5) — in the same way as the social pension itself.
What does incapacity for independent living mean?
It refers to a condition where a person requires constant care or assistance from another person for daily activities (dressing, eating, hygiene). It is assessed by a ZUS medical officer and represents a broader limitation than total incapacity for work alone.
